Depression (my first poem in 2008)

This is one of the first poems I wrote, it was a moment of desperation as I was suffering from depression. Writing has always been cathartic and is a blessing.

Lump in my throat

I just can’t swallow,

welled up inside

a cavernous hollow,

can’t even speak

lost, lonely and bleak.

Face swollen and seared

with hot salted tears,

pain in my gut

scars torn and uncut,

stomach heaving

sick with grieving,

head pounds my ears

overwhelmed by fears.

Feel so unwell

In this putrid hell,

So desperate to dispel

this growing swell

of crippling depression.

  1. Writing helps me cope with my conditions similar to yours, too. Although the aforementioned relief is surely only strengthened through the actual quality of the final product of which yours certainly doesn’t lack.
    Beautifully emotive. 🙂
