Sunlit Rye (for Sarah on her 29th Birthday) 14/10/13

Wildflower Child

For Sarah

She sweeps the room

with her glowing smile,

her long dress

swishes behind

trailing the dawn.

Sunlit hair, argent

like a field of rye,

bronzed skin glistens

with mist from the surf

and the breeze in her breath

speaks in wildflower rhythms,

spinning and dancing

like seeds on the wind.

She hails from the harvest sun

that ripens the wheat,

and ignites the amber moon

that gilds the sea,

she is my wild autumn child.
